Resilience Agriculture Extension Officers Training

October 5, 2017

The Date is TBC

Climate and disaster risk is widely recognized as a development issue. As such, approaches to managing these risks need to be integral in the development process and activities of all parties within all sectors. The Solomon Islands Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock have commenced a process in mainstreaming climate and disaster risks into their operations. Part of the integration process was the development of the Resilience Agriculture Extension Training manual. The main areas covered in the training manual are as follows:

  1. Global warming, climate change and disasters
  2. What are the main risks to agriculture in the Solomon Islands?
  3. Common practices: reducing risks from disasters and strengthening adaptation to climate change
  4. Disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation practices for specific risks

The training manual remains useless once it was not used by the Agriculture Extension Officers. As such, the next step to disseminate the information through trainings for our AEO’s in order to equip them in addressing CCDRM in the field. Apart from the Resilience training, other specific areas such as risk screening & Assessment for staff will be conducted.
